Stig Jarle Hansen is a leading expert on al-Shabaab and jihadist groups in Africa and a visiting scholar at Stanford University. He previously taught at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). He is the author of Al-Shabaab in Somalia (2013) and Horn, Sahel and Rift: Fault Lines of the African Jihad (2019).
