Ambassador Andebrhan Welde Giorgis is a former Eritrean ambassador to the EU, Governor of the Bank of Eritrea, and President of the University of Asmara. A veteran of Eritrea’s war of independence, he has held senior roles in diplomacy, academia, and economic governance, including as Permanent Representative to UNESCO and the IMO, and member of the Eritrean National Assembly. He also served as Commissioner for Coordination with the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Eritrea and Ethiopia, and Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region. Currently, he is a Board Member at the European Center for Electoral Support and a research fellow at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, specialising in democratic governance, conflict prevention, and peace and security.
